Just a 20-minute drive from Minneapolis/St. Paul. \nThe Chanhassen AutoPlex is known around the world for our amazing car condos.  Many of the 120 garage condominiums at the AutoPlex will be open for viewing. Coffee\, beverages\, and food will be available for purchase. \nWe welcome classic\, collector\, muscle\, antique\, street rod\, exotic vehicles\, and vintage motorcycles. The public is also welcome to spectate the event and drive their everyday car. Gates open at 7:30 am. \nLike all Chanhassen AutoPlex events\, the April 2024 Cars & Caves car show is a family-friendly event that is free and open to the public. \nShow Car Criteria \n\nAll collector\, muscle\, antique\, street rod\, exotic vehicles\, and vintage motorcycles are welcome. The following car classes are admitted into the show area: \n\nClassic cars: Cars manufactured between 1925 and 1948 are still in original or restored condition.\nCollector cars: Cars that are at least 25 years old and have been restored or maintained in their original condition.\nMuscle cars: High-performance American-made cars produced between the mid-1960s and early 1970s.\nAntique cars: Cars that are at least 45 years old and are in original or restored condition.\nStreet rods: Custom-built cars that resemble cars from the 1930s and 1940s.\nExotic vehicles: High-performance sports and luxury vehicles are typically rare and expensive.\nVintage motorcycles: Motorcycles that are at least 35 years old and are in original or restored condition.\n\nNOTE: Due to limited space\, we can only allow vintage or exotic import cars. Cars and Caves and the Chanhassen fire department are teaming up to heat things up for a season finale show on Saturday\, September 29 from 8a.m. to noon. \n\n\n\n\n“We expect banner numbers of show cars and motor enthusiasts for the final show of a fun\, successful season\,” says show committee chair Tony Mertes.The Chanhassen Fire Department crew will be on site with Sparky the Dalmatian to give tours of their fire engines and offer hands-on fire safety demonstrations. \n\n\n\n\n“There will be plenty of photo opportunities and ways the public can drop a buck in their boots to say thank you and boost their fundraising efforts\, says Mertes.” \n\n\n\n\nThe show is free of charge for cars and spectators—a unique aspect its organizers have kept in tact for two years and plan to continue. The organizers? The AutoPlex’s very own garage owners who want to share their unique community with others—to support a cause. \n\n\n\n\nBret Bailey\, The AutoPlex’s association president says\, ”The charity aspect of our show is important to us. We could easily make money if we choose\, but would rather give it back to the community.” \n\n\n\n\nThis season\, 100 percent of $16\,000 raised through on-site donations has supported area non-profits including Ronald McDonald House Charities\, RIValz Twin Cities\, Shriner’s Hospital Twin Cities\, Cody’s Heroes and Happy Tails. \n\n\n\n\nBailey says he’s pleased with the quality size of the show\, the family-friendly feel and the increased participation of fellow garage owners willing to share their automobila. \n\n\n\n\nTheir jaw dropping garage condos\, known as “caves\,” house some of the most unusual collections in the state. From the Batmobile and mini cork car to a 55 Chevy. There’s no shortage of cool-on-wheels that can drive anyone’s interest. \n\n\nSome 2018 Season highlights included a WWII airplane flyover Military Appreciation show and several car club drive-ins. Looking ahead to next season\, the Cars and Caves show organizers plan to double the volume of show cars and hire St Louis Park-based creative agency Nemer Fieger to help them accomplish that goal. \n\n“We’re thrilled to hand over the show promotion and production responsibilities so we can kick back and mingle at next year’s shows\,” Mertes says. The 2019 Cars and Caves season will run the last Saturday each month from April-September.\nPress Release
